We’re all aware of the skinnier cereal boxes and three-quarters of a gallon of ice cream at the grocery store and peanut butter jars with the huge dimple in the bottom. And muttering about it, too. But a recent tuna purchase really takes the cake (so to speak). By time I drained the water out of the tuna, mixed it with a little mayo and pickle, I had enough tuna salad for exactly one very average sandwich. Not piled high. Not dripping out the sides. One measly sandwich.

The kicker? It looked like an average tuna can and it was labeled as 5 ounces. Hardly! The point is, I was very annoyed, am obviously still annoyed and will never buy that brand again. I feel I was lied to.

Is that any way to build customer loyalty?

There’s a charming children’s book about a mouse and what happens when you give him cookie. You give the mouse a cookie and next he demands a glass of milk, then someplace to take a nap and on and on. It’s a great illustration of one thing leading to another. This website has been sort of like that. As a marketer and a firm believer in walking the walk, I want this new website to live the advice I give to clients: website, blog, social media, traditional media and networking, all working together, all part of the whole. It’s just taken awhile.

I’ve been on LinkedIn for many months. You can find (and join) me there at http://www.linkedin.com/in/bartlevy. Facebook is a bit newer. I don’t Twitter, but I know those who do to great effect. (I highly recommend my friend and colleague Casey Quinlan for info on how to maximize Twitter.) I network. I talk. One thing has led to another.

Watch this space. Subscribe if you like. Comment, by all means. It’s my goal to post 2-3 times a week. Probably shorter and more to the point.

The days of running an ad a few times and having the customers knocking down your door are long gone – if they ever existed. And there’s no such thing as having everything “complete” before going public. So, blow your own horn – blog back, talk, network, advertise, hone your message and do it all again. It’s never done. One thing just leads to another.

Special thanks to Mary Layman of TriMedia for making this new and vastly improved website a reality.
